We would definitely want to visit Mount Ash if we get back to Japan. Volcanos are something we are fascinated by. The view certainly is awesome. Good to know in advance that your visit is restricted to a time. We would look at renting a car to give us the flexibility to see the Volcano Museum too.

I’ve climbed up my fair share of volcanos, and my favourite was Mt. Bromo on Java .. but all the one’s I’ve seen have been sleeping giants – whereas this one is quite ominous. What a dramatic color – but my mind boggles at the sulphur aroma it’s spewing out.

In reply to Nicky. Thanks Nicky! You could rent a car in Fukuoka or Kumamoto and just drive to Mount Aso. It is just a short walk to get to the view point. There is no climbing involved. Hope this helps. :-)

That must have been quite the view looking down into the volcano! I didn’t expect to see those colours either – WOW. But how did you get up there? Can you just drive, or did you have to hike to the top?

Mount Aso, in Aso Kujū National Park on the island of Kyushu looks worth photogenic. The view of Mount Nakadake, and standing at the crater’s edge viewpoint has lovely views too.

HOW PRETTY! I didn’t expect the center of the volcano to be that bright blue/teal color! Was it a little nerve racking standing at the rim of an active volcano?!

Wow, this looks amazing. Love exploring volcanoes. Not familiar with Mount Aso. Just added to the Japan bucketlist. Looks like I will be needing at least a month there now 🙂

Shoot! I missed out on visiting Mt. Aso when we did our drive around Kyushu. It’s too far to go back, I think. I love the photo of you looking down into the crater. It’s gorgeous. We tried some of the Kyushu milk, and I agree, it is delicious. I do find it’s very easy to drive around Japan, don’t you?

Wow, what a beautiful landscape and stunning view looking down from the top! Interesting that they have created a museum around the volcano too. It goes to show you just how integral the volcano becomes in the everyday lives of the villagers.
